As always, I've been thinking about education, and I've been wondering why we don't teach
wisdom in the traditional model of high school? In general, classes on psychology, philosophy, logic, ethics, and sociology are all ignored at the high school level. Instead, we continue to exclusively teach
intelligence, focusing on factual information and assuming that the wisdom of the individual will follow naturally. It doesn't take too hard of a look around to see that there is a definitive lack of wisdom in our society...can this be remedied through education? Or are we doomed to continue to drive towards factual knowledge in our schools and produce people incapable of a
knowing and
meaningful interaction with people and the world? How can we start producing people capable of reasoning and living, and stop trying to create Jeopardy champions?
